Established in 1998, the Citizens On Patrol (CoP) program is an enhanced mobile "Neighborhood Watch" group that patrols, observes and reports suspicious activities.

It's made up of men and women who volunteer their time to be an extra set of eyes and ears for law enforcement.

CoP's have to be at least 19 years old. They are not required to be a resident of Daytona Beach.

Citizens Patrol Mission Statement:

Our mission is to perform crime watch activities, alert the Police Department of hazards and unlawful behavior and provide assistance to DBPD officers when requested.

Citizens Patrol: Who We Are:

The Citizens Patrol is a group of citizens who volunteer their time to patrol business and residential areas of the City, and assist Police Officers as requested.

Citizen Patrol members must be at least 19 years old, but do not need to be a resident of Daytona Beach. The Citizens Patrol application includes submission of certain documents, a background check and medical exam.

What we do:

We patrol, observe and report.

We patrol business and residential areas of the City, plus schools, parks and civic buildings. We report any issues by radio to Police Officers, who handle the matter(s).

  • We assist at traffic accidents and/or direct traffic as requested by Police Officers.
  • We assist at School Zones.
  • We provide Child Fingerprinting as requested at City or other events.
  • We participate in parades.
  • We pick up roadside snipe signs, as directed by Code Enforcement.
  • We treat all members of the public with courtesy and respect!

What we do not do:

  • We do not stop people or vehicles. Suspicious persons or vehicles are called in by radio for Police Officers to handle.
  • We do not provide enforcement, as we are not Police Officers. We are the extra eyes and ears for the Police Officers.
  • We do not respond to Police emergencies, except as requested by Police Officers.
