Public input sought for new city manager

The public is invited to a candidate forum at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Midtown Cultural and Educational Center, to meet the new city manager finalists. The public is asked to register in advance to assist with physical distancing efforts; however, registration is not required. The public can also submit questions for the candidates in advance.

Physical distancing of chairs is planned in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All attendees are asked to wear a face covering when inside the building.

Citizens can register online or by calling (386) 671-8018. Attendees will be asked to select their priority for presentation topics – Budget & Management, Business, Neighborhood Improvement or Public Safety. Bike Week roars into area today

Large crowds will start arriving today for the 80th anniversary of Bike Week, March 5-14. With the event planned in the midst of a pandemic, safety measures are being implemented to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Daytona Beach merchants in the Master Plan, including a few on Main Street, will be limited to 60% indoor occupancy.

Merchants will be following CDC guidelines for facemasks and physical distancing.

This year traffic will be restricted to only motorcycles on Main Street from Peninsula Drive to Atlantic Avenue during the 10-day event. Other motorists must use the side roadways or receive special permission to access the area. Curbside parking on Main Street will be limited to allow for greater physical distancing on the sidewalks. The Ocean Center will accommodate overflow parking in some of its lots and indoor parking at the facility will be available on the weekends. Parking is available for $5 outside and $10 inside per motorcycle.

For more information, including roadway details, visit the city’s website. For the schedule of Bike Week activities, visit the official Bike Week website.
