Health Department offers free Moderna vaccines weekly beginning Monday

Beginning Monday, May 3, free COVID-19 vaccines will be offered weekly at the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County’s two Daytona Beach locations:

421 Keech St.
Monday & Wednesday
8 to 11:30 a.m. & 1 to 4:30 p.m.

1845 Holsonback Drive
Tuesday: 8 to 11:30 a.m. & 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Thursday: 8 to 11:30 a.m. & 1 to 6 p.m.

People wanting to receive the vaccine can make an appointment starting this week. Please bring photo identification to the appointment. For more information and to make an appointment, call (386) 274-0500, press #.

Learn to play tennis at the city's Florida Tennis Center

The Florida Tennis Center, the city’s premier tennis facility, is offering 1-2-3 FUNdamental Lessons for adults and teens that will help players master the basics. The next session begins Tuesday, May 4, and classes are at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks.

Rackets are provided, if needed, and lessons are free if you bring a friend. Regular rate is $55 per player for the six hours of instruction.

Head downtown to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Head to downtown Daytona Beach for a Cinco de Mayo Street Party from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 5!

This free, family-friendly event is on Beach Street between Bay Street and 3rd Avenue. The celebration takes place in front of Tia Cori's Tacos, who is also commemorating their 10th anniversary. There is free public parking available behind the shops and accessible from Palmetto Avenue.

Railroad Crossing sign

Orange Avenue railroad crossing closed for maintenance May 1-3

FEC Railway will be performing maintenance on the crossing of the railroad at Orange Avenue beginning Saturday.

Traffic lanes in both directions near the railroad tracks will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday and will reopen at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 4.

Motorists in the area will be directed through a detour that begins at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on the east side and Seagrave Avenue on the west side, using International Speedway Boulevard and Live Oak Avenue as the roadways to cross the railroad tracks.
