Downtown Daytona Beach Food Truck Rally tonight

Enjoy Friday night in Downtown Daytona Beach at the Food Truck Rally. There will be music, fun and food trucks from 5 to 9 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue between Beach Street and Palmetto Avenue.

Participating food trucks include Back To Eden, Bells Kitchen and Smokehouse, Big Cheese, Fat Boi Gourmet Potatoes, Grateful Cow, Jersey Family Grill, Ida Jeans Kettle Corn, Lee's Famous Cheesesteaks, Ritter's Frozen Custard, Slapped Kitchen, Stoked Poké, Sweet Shelia's Funnel Cake, Taco's Land, Tainted Fruit & Treats, Wandering Goat, Wicked Good Mini Donuts, Willy Ts Crab Shack and Wing It To The Bone.

The Downtown Daytona Nights Food Truck Rally is sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority and Riverfront Shops of Daytona Beach.

Residents invited to Game Night at Daisy Stocking Park Saturday

Fun awaits at the city’s first adults-only Game Night this Saturday night. The fun begins at 7 p.m. at Daisy Stocking Park located at 550 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd.

Enjoy table games with your neighbors with a DJ, food and beverage concessions and door prizes throughout the evening. Tables and chairs will be provided for attendees. This event is for entertainment purposes; therefore, no gambling will be allowed.

Free COVID-19 vaccines available at city-sponsored clinics

People can receive a COVID-19 vaccine at one of the two upcoming clinics sponsored by the city.
 
Sept. 18 Vaccine Clinic
Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural and Educational Center at 1000 Vine St. Youth ages 12 and older can get the Pfizer vaccine. People ages 18 and older can get the Moderna vaccine. No appointments are required; walk-ins are welcome. People who receive the vaccine will receive a $25 gift card and ticket for a free hot dog, chips and drink (at the center). The vaccine clinic is sponsored by the City of Daytona Beach, Commissioner Dannette Henry, The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County and Zone 5 Neighborhood Watch.
 
Sept. 21 Vaccine Clinic
Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available for people ages 12 and older from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club located at 960 S. Williamson Blvd. in Daytona Beach. No appointment is required; walk-ins are welcome. Volusia County residents who receive the vaccine can get a $50 gift card for a total of $100 for the two-shot series (limited to 200 people). The vaccine clinic is sponsored by the City of Daytona Beach and Family Health Source.

Special Election for Zone 2 Tuesday

The special primary election for the vacated Zone 2 commission seat is Tuesday, Sept 21. Only registered voters in Zone 2 will be able to cast a ballot. Polling locations are Allen Chapel AME Church at 580 George W. Engram Blvd. (Precinct 619) and Schnebly Recreation Center at 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. (Precinct 607). Registration is open for flag football

Registration is open for flag football

Registration is open for Daytona Beach's youth flag football league for boys and girls ages 6 to 10. A football skills clinic will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. daily beginning Monday and continuing until Thursday.

The last day to register for flag football is Thursday, Sept. 30, with practices beginning Monday, Oct. 4. The registration fee is $40 and includes the clinic, practices and games, which will be at the Derbyshire Sports Complex at 849 Derbyshire Road in Daytona Beach. Games will begin Monday, Oct. 11, and continue through Thursday, Nov. 18. Team drafts are based on ages.

Learn-to-swim lessons
Learn-to-swim lessons are offered for youth ages 6 to 10 at the city’s two pools. Registration is at Cypress Aquatic Center, which is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
 
New city swim league
The City of Daytona Beach is starting a non-competitive swim league that focuses on endurance, strength, dives, turns and more. Swimmers must be at least 7 years old and able to swim front crawl and backstroke 25 yards to participate. Practice will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at Cypress Aquatic Center at 981 George W. Engram Blvd.
 
Swim league memberships are $40 per month for each participant; however, financial scholarships are available for qualifying youth. Registration is at Cypress Aquatic Center, which is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Mayor’s Swim Club is an effort by Mayor Derrick Henry that is working toward making sure all youth in Daytona Beach learn to swim. Swimming lessons and league sponsors include Advent Health, VyStar Credit Union, Vitas Health Care, Walmart, Bank of America, Dick's Sporting Goods and Embassy of Hope.
