City Commission meets Wednesday, April 20

The City Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at City Hall. Items on the agenda include a contract to expand and remodel restrooms at Peabody Auditorium, an agreement with FDOT to install sidewalks and drainage improvements in the Derbyshire Sports Complex and an amendment to the Master Plan guidelines for annual biker events. 
 
Commission meetings are broadcast online and on Spectrum Channel 490. They are also recorded and archived for viewing online. Residents can sign up to receive agendas via text or email.

Residents are invited to a quarterly CodeStat meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Our Lady of Lourdes (1014 N. Halifax Ave.). Sand, sun and a fun run/walk await at this Saturday’s Easter Beach Run, which starts on the beach by the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell. The kids’ races start at 10:30 a.m. and the Easter Beach Run starts at 11 a.m. This year’s custom medals and t-shirts are positively egg-cellent! It’s not too late to register!

Weekly basketball contest at Dickerson Community Center

If 3-point baskets are your thing, show us what you got at the Dickerson Community Center’s 2-on-2 basketball contest at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Weekly winners of this sharp-shooting contest will advance to the finals, which are Wednesday, May 18. Overall winners will receive a championship trophy and $10 Wawa gift cards. All ages are welcome. The Dickerson Community Center is at 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Help clean the highways and byways of our community on Earth Day! Daytona Beach Zone 4 Commissioner Stacy Cantu is organizing this clean-up that will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 22. Participants should meet in the Publix parking lot of the Shoppes at Beville Road in Daytona Beach.

Tickets on sale for Fiddler on the Roof performance

Enjoy a performance of Fiddler on the Roof at 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the Peabody Auditorium. Tickets are available online or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Peabody Box Office located at 600 Auditorium Blvd. Ticket prices range from $43 to $63 plus applicable surcharges.
 
Fiddler on the Roof is the heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives and life, love and laughter. This classic musical is rich with Broadway hits including “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were A Rich Man,” "Sunrise, Sunset,” "Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “Tradition.”
 
The original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof, which opened in 1964, was the first musical to surpass 3,000 performances. The show won the 1965 Tony Award for Best Musical in addition to eight other Tony Awards that year. This acclaimed revival proudly introduces a new generation to the iconic musical adored across the globe.

 After taking a temporary pause due to the pandemic, the annual Crab & Seafood Festival is back and planned for Saturday, April 30.
 
The city is sponsoring this family event again, which will be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Charles Street. Enjoy food, arts and crafts and a Kids’ Zone sponsored by VyStar Credit Union.
