Veterans Museum and Education Center opens Saturday

The public is invited to a celebration of the Veterans Museum and Education Center, which is opening in its new location at 9 a.m. Saturday at 302 Vermont Ave. in Daytona Beach. Attendees will be able to learn about and view items dating back to the Spanish-American War. The renovated facility is filled with historical and educational pieces, which tell the story and honor our U.S. Armed Forces.

Parking is available across the street from the Center, which is on the corner of Peninsula Drive and Vermont Avenue. For more information, call (386) 256-7909.

Riverfront Esplanade opens north section Saturday

The northern section of the transformed Riverfront Esplanade will open Saturday with a day full of fun activities. Residents will be able to enjoy a dog park, cushioned running trail, event lawn with large oak trees and beautiful fountains as well as benches and swings with riverfront views for adults and children. The Esplanade will be open daily from sunrise to sunset.

People can follow the Riverfront Esplanade on Facebook for activities happening at the park and schedule changes due to weather.

Tribute to local veterans Saturday night at the Bandshell

Join Daytona Beach City Commissioners Stacy Cantu and Dannette Henry, Senator Tom Wright and other dignitaries at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell for a special tribute to local veterans. Enjoy the singing of the national anthem, a patriotic flyover followed by a free concert at 7:15 p.m. by Fleetwood Max, a Fleetwood Mac Tribute. Fireworks over the ocean will follow the concert at about 9:45 p.m. The free concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Bandshell and the Boardwalk Merchants and the City of Daytona Beach.

City commissioners met Wednesday night and people who were not able to attend can watch the video of the meeting on the city’s website. Commissioners approved a pilot Crime Reduction Doorbell Camera program and a contract to remove 10 derelict vessels from the intracoastal waterway and accepted a Tortugas Care Foundation pledge of up to $50,000 to build a Little League field at Derbyshire Park.

Tickets on sale to see comedian Chelsea Handler

Tickets are on sale to see comedian Chelsea Handler at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Peabody Auditorium. Ticket prices range from $39.50 – $125 (plus applicable surcharges) and can be purchased online or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Peabody Box Office. VIP Meet & Greet tickets are also available for purchase and include preferred seating and a meet and greet with Handler.

Handler is a comedian, television host, best-selling author and advocate whose humor and candor have established her as one of the most celebrated voices in entertainment and pop culture. Most recently, she released her first stand-up special in over six years, the critically acclaimed “Chelsea Handler: Evolution” on HBO Max, and launched her iHeart Radio advice podcast, “Dear Chelsea.” Handler has been honored by TIME Magazine as one of its annual “TIME 100;” Glamour Magazine as one of their Women of the Year; and the Human Rights Campaign, which gave her its Ally for Equality Award. Help keep stormwater drains clear

Residents should keep stormwater run-off areas around their home, including roadway gutters, free and clear of debris and obstructions. If residents see anyone dumping illegal contents into these inlets or other stormwater areas or notice flooding as a result of a potentially clogged stormwater drain, notify the city’s 24-hour dispatch center at (386) 671-8815 or report it online.
