Join us for State of the City next Wednesday

State of the City will precede the Jan. 18 City Commission meeting
Join Mayor Derrick L. Henry and the City Commission for the annual State of the City address at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 301 S. Ridgewood Ave. in Daytona Beach.

Mayor Henry will highlight accomplishments from the past year and initiatives underway that make Daytona Beach the community of choice and a great place to live, learn, work, play and raise a family. The State of the City will be broadcast on the city’s website at www.CODB.us/DBTV and on Spectrum Channel 490.

The State of the City presentation will precede the regularly scheduled City Commission meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. The commission meets regularly to discuss and vote on official city business on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Community events honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Monday, Jan. 16, as we remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we encourage residents to spread kindness and work together for a more equitable future. City offices are closed Monday, Jan. 16, and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 17. In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., there are several community activities in Daytona Beach including:

Work starts on Heineman Water Tank

Construction of a five-million-gallon water tank has started in Suburbia Park, 700 Heineman Street. The $12.4 million project, expected to take about 12 months to complete, will double the storage capacity of the city's water supply and provide an emergency water supply for peak demand periods including when water is needed for fire suppression, there is a power outage at the plant or during the day when usage is high. The Heineman site was selected because it is centrally located and was previously used for an elevated storage tank, so larger underground pipes are already in place. Suburbia Park will remain open during construction, which will take place during daytime hours.

Business Recovery Center opens at library

Deadline to apply for individual disaster assistance is Jan. 12
A Business Recovery Center has opened at the Daytona Beach Regional Library. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Homeowners, renters, business owners, homeowners associations and most private nonprofit organizations impacted by Hurricane Ian and/or Hurricane Nicole may apply for a low-interest, long-term disaster assistance loan to assist with their recovery from the storm(s). The SBA offers a physical property damage loan as well as an economic injury loan.

People impacted by Hurricane Ian have until Thursday, Jan. 12, to apply for FEMA assistance and/or a physical property damage loan through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
