Reopening community event at Colin’s Park Saturday

Join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, to celebrate the reopening of Colin’s Park. The beachside park just had improvements completed including upgraded playground equipment, new connecting sidewalks and a dog park and refreshed landscaping.

The $167,625 improvement project was funded in part by a $53,125 grant from the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Facilities District. Colin’s Park opened in 1996 and is at 100 University Blvd. The 2.5 acre park also has picnic tables, grills, benches, restrooms and a fishing dock/pier.

Attendees can enjoy games, music and refreshments at the grand reopening celebration.

Riverfront Market Sunday at the Esplanade

Visit the Riverfront Esplanade Sunday and enjoy their market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy shopping at local vendors, music and a Wellness Walk at 9 a.m.

Spanning a mile of shoreline along the Halifax River, the Riverfront Esplanade on Beach Street is a premier gathering space for passive reflection and recreational activities. Featuring a running trail, comfortable benches and swings overlooking the scenic Halifax River, play features for children, a dog park with an agility course and restrooms, the Esplanade is open daily from sunrise to sunset. The southern section, which runs from Orange Avenue to International Speedway Boulevard, remains under construction and will open later this year.

Watch replay of City Commission meeting

City commissioners met Wednesday night and people who were not able to attend can watch a replay of the meeting from the convenience of their personal computer or mobile device.

At the meeting, commissioners recognized this month’s Beautification Award winners and approved the distribution of Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery funds, a project budget for ADA restroom upgrades at City Hall, agreements for city-owned vacant lots for housing development, several rezoning requests and an incentive agreement between the City and Project Robin.

Utilities readies for summer rainfall

As the rainy season is upon us, Utility Department crews have been proactively removing debris from storm drains, catch basins and drainage outlets throughout the city. Last week, 23 yards of debris – litter, leaves and lawn clippings – was collected from more the 500 stormwater inlets throughout the city. In addition to cleaning the inlets, crews also pumped down the North Street and Butts Park ponds to create more capacity for rainwater. New city software makes it simple to search permits and development projects

New software makes it simple to search access city data and services

The City of Daytona Beach is using a new online permitting software system, called Intuitive Municipal Solutions (iMS), which streamlines the process for issuing building permits and improves access to stored data for individual properties and large-scale development projects.

Replacing the software TRAKit from CentralSquare, the web-based system makes it easier for residents to search city records including building permits, code compliance cases, land development applications, Business Tax Receipts and rental property licenses. New users can create an account or continue as a guest. Instructional videos are posted on the city’s website.

City’s annual Water Quality Report is online

The city vigilantly safeguards its water supply, which comes from a series of 24-deep wells in the Floridan Aquifer. As in years past, drinking water produced and delivered to homes and businesses meets or exceeds quality standards required by state and federal regulatory agencies. Registration open for Adult Basketball League

Registration is open for the city’s Adult Basketball League, which begins Thursday, July 6, at the Cherry Community Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd. Games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday and consist of two 20-minute halves. Playoffs will be after the regular season, followed by a final game to determine who will claim the championship trophy. Team registration is $350. Deadline to register is June 30. The City of Daytona Beach's Park and Recreation Department is hiring several positions including casual workers, lifeguards and gymnastics coaches. Starting at $13 an hour, casual workers and gymnastics coaches will have the opportunity to serve as an advisor, coach, assistant and instructor for recreational activities.
