Welcome bikers to Daytona Beach's 83rd Bike Week, March 1 to 10

Motorcycle enthusiasts will be rolling into town this week for the "world's largest motorcycle event," Bike Week. Event traffic will be centered in Daytona Beach, particularly on and around Main Street, Atlantic Avenue, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Daytona International Speedway. Throughout the 10-day event, vehicular access to Main Street will be restricted to motorcycles only. Motorists should be patient and pay close attention to bikers while traveling the roadways. Safety tips include:

  • Double-check traffic at intersections before turning or pulling out.
  • Always check blind spots before changing lanes.
  • Leave at least a four-second distance between your car and a motorcycle in front of you.
  • When passing a motorcycle, give an entire lane to the motorcycle. Do not share lanes!
  • Avoid distractions such as talking on your cell phone, texting, eating or changing radio stations.
  • Don't drink and drive! Daytona Beach Police will increase DUI monitoring.

For more information, visit the event's official website.

Seven members and their alternates have been appointed to the Charter Review Commission (CRC), a volunteer committee tasked with reviewing the city's charter and making recommendations for changes, additions or deletions to the 36-page document. The CRC's recommendations will be presented to the City Commission at a public meeting on June 5, and two public hearings will be established for additional public input. Upon final approval by the City Commission, the amendments will be placed on the ballot at the next general election, which is Nov. 5, 2024.

Residents receive up to 25% discount on flood insurance

Daytona Beach property owners and renters who carry flood insurance coverage will see a reduction in policy premiums as a result of the efforts led by the city to reduce the risk of local flooding. The city earned a Class 5 classification in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System (CRS), up one spot from its previous rating. This classification leads to a 25% discount on flood insurance premiums for most National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies issued or renewed on or after Oct. 1, 2024.

The City of Daytona Beach voluntarily participates in the CRS, an incentive program to recognize communities for implementing floodplain management practices that exceed the federal minimum requirements of the NFIP to provide protection from flooding.
