Drinking Water Notice Header Image

Routine treatment of city water through Sept. 20

Starting Friday, Aug. 9, the city will temporarily switch the disinfectant used in its water treatment process from chloramines to free chlorine. The city does this on a regular basis to improve the quality of its drinking water. Disinfection is a critical part of the water treatment process that keeps drinking water free of harmful microorganisms. During the disinfectant change, tap water remains safe to drink and use. Some customers, including South Daytona water customers, may notice a stronger smell or taste for a few weeks.

Here are a few tips to minimize the chlorine odor and taste:

  • Run the tap for a few minutes before using
  • Refrigerate water in an open pitcher for several hours
  • Add a slice of citrus or cucumber and let sit for several hours

If you have any questions concerning this procedure, please call the water department at (386) 671-8815 or (386) 671-8809.

Highlands 100 year Celebration

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Daytona Highlands community

The Daytona Highlands, the area’s oldest subdivision, is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a public reception at the Museum of Arts & Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

The neighborhood was created in 1924 during Florida’s land boom. The Tarragona Arch on International Speedway Boulevard, across from Daytona State College, was built at the time to show investors the new residential community wasn’t a scam like many other Florida developments in the 1920s.

The Daytona Highlands Civic Association, representing approximately 200 homes, is hosting the reception and educational opportunity with the support of Zone 6 City Commissioner Paula R. Reed.

Join the Daytona Highlands community in celebrating this historic milestone!
