Welcome race fans

Race fans will be in town for Friday's Wawa 250 and Saturday’s Coke Zero 400 races. Following each race, detours will be in place for outbound traffic. Residents living on Jimmy Ann Drive, between Dunn Avenue and Mason Avenue, must detour to Clyde Morris Boulevard to Dunn Avenue. Motorists are advised to follow the well-marked detours and drive with patience and caution.

Many hands make light work!

Volunteers helped the Code Compliance department mail over 2,000 rental renewal notices in an amazing display of community spirit. A special thanks goes to Timothy Blowers Jr., Sandy Murphy, Eyvette Presley, Anne Ruby and Betty Williams, who generously volunteered their time on a weekday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., taking only a short lunch break. Their commitment to supporting their local government made a difference in the timely delivery of these important notices.

Future volunteer opportunities will be available for those interested in contributing to similar initiatives. Stay tuned for more information on how you can get involved and help make a difference in our community.

Building permit fees waived from Sept. 1 to March 1, 2025

Building permit and inspection fees are being waived for commercial and residential properties in Daytona Beach from Sept. 1 through March 1, 2025. Eligible projects include but are not limited to new construction, interior renovations, roof replacements, electrical and fire suppression systems upgrades and new fences, doors, windows, driveways and air conditioners. Permit applications are available online or can be picked up at the Permits and Licensing office at City Hall at 301 S. Ridgewood Ave.

Sign of the Times

To welcome visitors coming from I-4 and I-95, new branded Daytona Beach signs have been installed in the right of way on Beville Road and International Speedway Boulevard west of LPGA Boulevard. Another sign will soon be placed on LPGA Boulevard. Commissioner Stacy Cantu (Zone 4) purchased the welcome signs through her allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds. Landscaping will be placed around the signs soon.

The city is developing a citywide Parks and Recreation Master Plan to ensure its facilities and programs continue to serve the community's needs. This Master Plan will guide the development, maintenance and funding of our community’s parks, recreational facilities and programs. We want to hear from you to better understand the needs of our residents!

Registration is open for "The Benefits of Bees" presentation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Breakers Oceanfront Park, 13 S. Atlantic Ave. Learn about bees and their important role in our ecosystem. Tim Blodgett, a UF/IFAS Master Beekeeper and certified Welsh Honey Judge, will provide the presentation. He is a current member of the Volusia County Bee Club and the group's former president and treasurer.
