Evacuation Order 
for Daytona Beach Residents

Evacuation Order

Volusia County has enacted a countywide evacuation order for Hurricane Milton beginning 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, for people in areas east of the Intracoastal waterway, manufactured and mobile homes, campsites and RV recreational parks and low-lying and flood-prone areas.  

Before you leave, it is advisable to take the following precautionary actions around your property:

  • Take pictures of important household items
  • Elevate furniture above flood protection levels
  • Seal off sewer lines to the dwelling to prevent backflow of sewer waters
  • Turn off all the utilities at the main power breaker and shut off the main gas valve if you are evacuating
  • Keep a battery-powered radio tuned to a local station and follow any emergency instructions

What you should take with you:

  • Special dietary food, snacks or comfort food, water or other non-alcoholic beverages
  • Bedding: pillow, blanket, etc. *General population shelters do not provide cots, so a comfortable beach chair and sleeping pad are recommended
  • Ear plugs
  • Extra clothing
  • Medications and medical supplies  
  • Toiletry items
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Diapers, infant and elderly/disabled necessities
  • Time occupiers such as books, magazines, games or cards

Curfews

A curfew has been announced for Volusia County beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9., and lasting until 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. This curfew does not apply to: regular members of law enforcement bodies; employees of businesses, industries, or government entities while traveling for their jobs; all emergency workers.

Shelters

Volusia County is partnering with Volusia County Schools to open emergency shelters at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9. 

General Population Shelter in Daytona Beach: 
Mainland High School (pet friendly) 
1255 W. International Speedway Blvd. 

Special Needs Shelter in Daytona Beach: 
David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School 
1860 N. Clyde Morris Blvd. 

These shelters will provide basic necessities such as food, water, and a place to sleep. Note that they are not intended to be comfortable living spaces. Special Needs Shelters are staffed by healthcare professionals, these shelters are for evacuees with one caregiver only. They are not suitable for individuals needing complex medical care.

Changes to Garbage Collection Schedule

Residential garbage will not be picked up on Thursday. Thursday's regular collection will be serviced on Friday. Friday's regular collection will be on Saturday. All recycling normally done on Thursday and Friday will be delayed until next week.
