February 5, 2025 Today’s City Manager’s Update newsletter contains the following announcements and updates: Community Programs & Events - Free Swimming Lessons for Autistic Children: The city is offering free water safety lessons from March 17-21 at Cypress Aquatic Center, funded by a $20,000 grant from Volusia County.
- Community Tourism Listening Session (Feb. 18): The Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) invites residents to discuss tourism marketing and its impact. RSVP by Feb. 17.
- Daytona Beach University Citizens Academy (Starts March 13): Registration is open for a nine-week interactive program providing an in-depth look at city operations.
City Development & Infrastructure - Permit & Inspection Fees Waived: Fees for commercial and residential projects are waived through March 1, 2025, saving residents $2.8 million so far.
- Stormwater Management Grant: The city secured $1.45 million from the county’s Transform386 program for stormwater infrastructure studies.
- Luxury Oceanfront Apartment Completion: After two years of construction, Daytona Beach’s only luxury oceanfront apartment complex, Triton Cay, receives its Certificate of Occupancy.
- Updates on Current Projects:
- Bethune Point Park Playground – Near completion.
- Main Street Arch Restoration – Expected completion this summer.
- Derbyshire Sports Complex Parking Lot – New 105-space parking area underway.
- North Street Sidewalk Upgrades – Eliminates tripping hazards and includes stormwater flow improvements in the curb design.
