The latest edition of the City Manager’s Update newsletter highlights key initiatives, projects and events shaping Daytona Beach:

Honoring Firefighter Richard Crapps – The city mourns the recent loss of Firefighter Richard Crapps, remembered for his dedication and quiet strength. 

  • Team-Building for City Leadership – City Manager Deric C. Feacher hosted a senior staff retreat focused on collaboration and problem-solving, reinforcing a culture of teamwork.
  • Grant Funding for Recreation Projects – Daytona Beach secured over $420,000 in grants to enhance the Midtown Recreation Complex and Lenox Park Playground, improving fitness and play areas for the community.
  • New Firefighting Boat: Marine 1—The Daytona Beach Fire Department launched Marine 1, a 26-foot firefighting boat stationed at Fire Station No. 1. 
  • Building Permit Fee Waivers—From September 2024 to March 2025, the city waived $3.5 million in building permit fees, benefiting more than 2,000 residential and commercial projects.
  • Infrastructure & Safety Improvements:
    • Main Street Arch rehabilitation project continues, with completion expected this summer.
    • Beachside Water Tanks from the 1950s-60s were safely dismantled and removed.
    • Main Street Security Cameras were installed at key intersections to enhance public safety.
  • Upcoming Community Events:
    • Easter Beach Run (April 19) – A scenic race featuring multiple distances for all ages.
    • Bike Week (Feb. 28 - March 9) – The 84th annual event draws motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country.
    • Crab & Seafood Festival (April 26) – A lively event featuring food, music and vendors.
    • St. Paddy’s Day Block Party (March 17) – Live music, food and a festive dog parade.
    • Midtown Music Concert (March 29) – Featuring The Groov Smooth Jazz at Daisy Stocking Park.
    • Island Fest (March 29) – A ticketed festival at Manatee Island.
    • Turkey Run (March 21-23) – An annual classic car show at the Daytona International Speedway with vendors and entertainment.
