new utility cash-payment procedureDue to the ongoing nationwide shortage of one cent coins, the City of Daytona Beach is updating its process for handling cash utility payments to ensure residents can continue making payments smoothly, even when exact coin change is not available. This rounding-and-credit approach is designed to be simple and transparent for residents while reducing reliance on penny inventories during the ongoing shortage. How it will work: When a customer pays a utility bill in cash, staff will round the payment up to the nearest five cents. Any amount above the exact bill total will be automatically applied as a credit on the customer’s utility account and carried forward to the next billing cycle. (Customers may still pay with pennies; however, the city will not provide pennies as change.)

water conservation resolutionAs we head into the new year, the City of Daytona Beach encourages residents to make a resolution to save water. The Water Conservation Program offers year-round tips and incentives to help you reduce water use both indoors and outdoors. Fixing leaks, shortening showers, installing WaterSense-labeled fixtures and upgrading inefficient toilets can lead to big savings over time. Together, these small daily actions protect Florida’s water-dependent ecosystems and ensure a reliable water supply for future generations.

stormwater holiday remindersAs the holiday season brings extra activity around our homes and neighborhoods, it’s important to remember that stormwater runoff can carry pollutants directly into the Halifax and Tomoka Rivers. Leaves, grass clippings, pet waste, chemicals and even improperly discarded gift wrapping can harm water quality and aquatic life. You can help protect our waterways by sweeping leaves and yard debris instead of blowing them into streets or storm drains, picking up after pets, and disposing of paints, cleaning products and other chemicals properly. Small actions by each of us make a big difference in keeping our waterways clean and healthy.
