The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach’s rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Crews are set to pour the final round of concrete on the west side of the arch this week. Recently, the supports and forms from the east side were removed and relocated to the west side, with the past two weeks focused on setting rebar and forms. Crews have started installing stone on the east side, having already moved pallets of stone under the arch. Stone cutting is nearly finished. The project remains on schedule, with completion still targeted for this summer.
