The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach’s rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Crews are installing Coquina stone on the Arch, with work underway on the east side. Approximately 80% of the top walkway walls are complete. All concrete work has been finished and the formwork removed, marking a major milestone. Next steps include reinstalling the sign, completing interior repairs such as patching walls, repainting, installing new lights and cameras and fixing the railings before the Arch can reopen.
